The Grand Marais Art Colony
Nurturing Creativity on the North Shore
Nestled in the harbor-side village of Grand Marais, Minnesota, with direct access to Lake Superior and the BWCA wilderness, the Art Colony is a gateway for people to explore their creativity in a nurturing atmosphere.  

The Art Colony supports artists and creative seekers at every step of their creative journey from novice to professional artist through a variety of educational opportunities.  With over 200 classes, artist talks, family-friendly activities, artist services (including residencies and studio access), and artist-driven community events.

ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME
Whether you are a novice or experienced artist, our classes strive to meet your needs within a supportive environment.  Working under the guidance of quality instruvtors, our intimate class sizes allow for rich dialogue and learning to occur amongst our students.  All classes are open to all levels, unless otherwise noted.

The following class categories are designed to meet specific needs:

FOUNDATIONAL: For students with no experience or who want to try a medium for the first time.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: For students who have gained foundational knowledge in a specific medium.  See individual class prerequisites in descriptions.
STUDIO ACCESS QUALIFIER: Introduces students to the equipment and practice of a medium-specific studio to allow for independent studio use.

Join our community of dedicated volunteers and work study students who help the Art Colony thrive!  Opportunities range from administrative to facilities, events, and programmatic support.  Schedules are flexible and vary from daily to yearly or even on an as needed basis.  Inquire for more information regarding Work Study options.
