David Voorhees hails from a family of artists, including painters, woodworkers, and jewelers. David trained in painting and sculpture in undergraduate school at the University of the South in Tennessee and in graduate school at the University of South Carolina. Once he touched clay he found his medium. Primarily self-taught, he has taken many workshops with potters, notably David Leach, who first introduced him to porcelain. Exploring wood firing recently has given new direction to David’s career in clay, which has spanned more than 35 years.
