Howard Sivertson is a native of Isle Royale and the North Shore where he has painted its landscapes and history since 1976. He is a graduate with honors of the Minneapolis School of Art (now the Minneapolis College of Art and Design). He has since studied under Edgar Whitney, Nita Engle, Robert Wood, Tony Van Hasselt, Frank Webb, Chen KI Chee, Russell Norberg, Jim Wilcox, and Birney Quick. He is an award winning author and Illustrator of Five books on interesting but little known historical stories about Isle Royale, The Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and the north shore of Lake Superior.
