Sharing the Fire:
Traveling exhibit comes to the Art Colony
June 1-27, 2012 
"Minnesota Potters: Sharing the Fire" is a traveling exhibit that will provide a view into the lives and work of eight Minnesota potters - four pairs of artists whose unique relationships celebrate some of the many ways that knowledge, experience and spirit is passed from person to person in this field.

An exhibit of the work will be on display in the Studio Building's Mini Gallery. Gallery Reception and Documentary Screening to be held on June 22.

FREE Workshop with Robert Brisco & Jason Trebs will occur on June 23. Details to come.

Calling all artists, artisans and art organizations!  Join Sam Black from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council (ARAC) to learn more about our regional arts council as well as funding opportunities they have available.  Mr. Black will talk about all ARAC grant programs effective between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013 including brief descriptions and deadlines. 

Questions will be welcome throughout, and this workshop should help you understand the several roles ARAC can serve in the seven Arrowhead counties.

Call for Artists
Bemidji Sculpture Walk 
In its 14th year, this project has gained great public acclaim and overwhelming responses from community members and visitors alike. All Artists chosen to participate will receive an Honorarium upon completion of sculpture installation. Deadline: April 14


Flow Art Space in Minneapolis announces a call for "Retro," a group show to be held from June 6 - 23, 2012. Actual or imaginary imagery or repurposed items from an earlier time are eligible for entry. All media will be considered. Work may be For Sale or Not For Sale. Deadline: April 17.


Arrowhead Regional Arts Council (ARAC) is currently accepting applications from individuals wishing to serve on its Board.  Deadline: April 27  Download a board application form at

Kristin Blomberg, new Art Colony staff member

New hire at the Art Colony!
  The Art Colony is pleased to announce we have hired a year-round, part-time Program Assistant. Kristin Blomberg, a plein air pastel artist and experienced office wizard, will start on April 2 and will be in the office Sundays-Tuesdays, 9am-4pm. Stop by and say hello! 

With the creation of this new position, the Art Colony now has three staff members and will be open 7 days a week, 9am-4pm.

A well attended Spring Theme Exhibit
It was a packed house for the opening reception of Rhythms of Darkness & Light. Attendees filled every nook and cranny of the Art Colony for Wayne Roosa's lecture on the theme. Download Wayne's lecture notes from our website.

For those who missed the show- don't fret, you can still get a copy of the booklet with images of all the work as well as artists statements.  Download a copy for free or request hard copy for only $5.
