Former SPA faculty member Hazel Belvo to exhibit paintings in Drake Gallery
Hazel Belvo: Four Decades of Painting, the latest exhibit in the Harry M. Drake Gallery, will run from Thursday, November 1, 2012-Friday, November 30, 2012.
An artist, master teacher and mentor, Hazel Belvo was on the fine arts faculty at SPA from 1972-1989, and also served as chair of the department. An artist reception will be held at the gallery on Friday, November 2, from 5-8 p.m.
Belvo has exhibited nationally and internationally for 50 years, and her work is in many public collections, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Bezalel Museum, the Dewitt Wallace Collection, MMM, and General Mills. She is a retired professor emeritus at Minneapolis College of Art and Design and an instructor at Grand Marais Art Colony.
“Hazel has been a friend and colleague who I know as a wonderful artist. We are so very pleased to have her Four Decades of Painting exhibition in our own Harry M. Drake Gallery,” said Marty Nash, SPA faculty member and chair of the fine arts department. “I first met Hazel in 1976, so I have known her three of her past four decades. She was already a very accomplished artist—at a time when we were both a part of the founding of W.A.R.M. Gallery (Women’s Art Registry of Minnesota).”
