The Grand Marais Art Colony has partnered with the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council and the Minnesota Department of Veteran’s Affairs to provide a special workshop for military veterans and their family members on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Participants will explore their inner landscapes and experiment with what is fragmented, silenced, joyful. Using writing prompts, attendees will illuminate parts of their personal histories and begin to craft them into works of art. This workshop will focus on the writing process, not product, in a safe, sharing environment. All writing levels welcome; no previous writing experience necessary.
Facilitator, Jeanette Marie Cox, resides in Ely, Minnesota and has provided writing and creativity workshops for twenty-five years. Her poetry chapbook, War and Peace, was adapted and featured in a Marjorie Goldman off-Broadway dance production. She studied and worked with Dr. Arun Gandhi on non-violence and social justice issues. She is an Arts and Cultural Heritage—Community Arts Learning Grant recipient, a McKnight/Arts and Cultural Heritage Individual Artist Fellowship recipient, and a Career Development Grant recipient from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council.
