Japanese and Korean Inspired Clay Techniques
June 23 - 27, 2014; 5 days; 9am - 4pm
Location: Clay Studio
Students will learn Japanese and Korean inspired techniques for throwing and decorating their ceramics. Instruction will cover throwing off the hump, coiling, and paddling. Students will have an opportunity to try a Japanese style Karatsu Kick Wheel and work with hand-dug clay. They will also explore various decorating techniques including kohiki, hakime, mishima, sgraffito, and iron painting as well as handle-making with rattan and jute. Overall focus will be on repetitive practice of techniques vs. production.
This class will be canceled on Monday, June 16, 2014,
if minimum enrollment is not met. Please register before this date.
