How to View Contemporary Art

Friday, August 14, 2015; 7pm

Instructor:
Charles Matson Lume
Location:
Eco-Friendly Print Studio
Tuition:
$10.00
Class Size:
45
Join us for an enlightening evening with Charles Matson Lume, Professor of Art at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and, in 2013, recipient of the University's Outstanding Senior Researcher award. Charles will provide participants with a better foundation to understand the complex viewing of contemporary art. He will weave together aestheticians David Hume’s "Of the Standard of Taste," 1757 and Arthur Danto’s "The Artworld," 1964, addressing questions such as, is there set criteria to create an "ideal art critic?" Or are their broader theories with which to understand the art world that move beyond our own perceptions? Participants will see art through new aesthetic lenses.

Pre-registration is requested for this event. Please call the Art Colony to register.
