Plein Air Painting: Big Bend National Park
February 28 - March 3; 4 days; 9am - 4pm
Celebrate the 100th anniversary of our National Park system with a special trip to Big Bend and the Chisos Mountains at the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert, home to scenic vistas, diverse wildlife, and fascinating historic sites. Students will explore the landscape by painting on site en plein air. Neil will teach the use of the prismatic palette, emphasizing the relationship between color and value and how they work together to create a believable painting. Students will learn to control shadow values to create perspective, depth, form, and character in relation to color value, as well as how to control color in subtle degrees. The Art Colony will provide full resources regarding lodging and travel options, as well as other area sites to see. Travel and lodging are not included.
