Many colored pencil manufacturers use exotic, if not helpful, pigment names such as "True Blue", "Night Green", "Spanish Orange" and so on. How does the beginning (and even more advanced) artist make sense of these sometimes misleading labels and where do they fit in the overall scheme of color? By a sequence of demonstrations and exercises, participants will start with a monochromatic scheme, move on to complimentary, split-complimentary, analogous and triatic color schemes. By the end of the workshop, each participant should have a clearer and more understandable approach to color as it applies to colored pencil. Along the way, various techniques and compositional problems will be discussed, as well as subject matter and materials. Some previous drawing experience is a plus and a sense of humor is necessary!
