The Art Colony hosts intensive classes with instructors who are practicing studio artists and college and university faculty. Instruction covers a broad spectrum of media including: ceramics, drawing, literary arts, painting, printmaking, and sculpture, among others. The Art Colony’s mentor series is also a perfect way for advancing and mid-career artists to receive mentored guidance on their works-in-progress.

Due to COVID-19, the Art Colony has implemented new safety protocols for all classes. Requirements include: limited class sizes, physical distancing, and mandatory masks. Students will receive further information upon registration. We continue to practice under the evolving guidelines of the CDC and the Minnesota Department of Health.

Questions can be emailed to info@grandmaraisartcolony.org.

All Skill Levels Welcome

The Art Colony values the diversity of creative expression present within our community. Classes are open to all levels except where noted. The following class categories are designed to meet specific needs:

  • Foundational Series: For students with no experience or who want to try a medium for the first time.
  • Experience Required: For students who have gained foundational knowledge in a specific medium. See individual class prerequisites in class descriptions.
  • Studio Qualifier: Introduces students to the equipment and practice of a medium-specific studio to allow for independent studio use.
