Publication: philosophical and practical considerations for writers of poetry and of short fiction and nonfiction with Rebecca Foust

This is not a nuts and bolts HOW to get published, but a deeper inquiry into WHY we want to publish our work at all, and WHAT constitutes publication, besides in the conventional venues. We’ll also talk about what I see as the main reason to engage in publication at all—the way it can be used to motivate and support our creative work.

Why is Food Memoir Important? with Lisa Golden Schroeder

What is your first memory of food or cooking as a central character in your life, if it ever has been? What do you think the value is in recalling time at the table or in the kitchen with family or friends in autobiography and memoir?

Editing the Classics with Klecko

If you could, how would you edit the classics? Klecko will start off by discussing what he would change in The Great Gatsby and Grapes of Wrath before turning the conversation over to his tablemates to hear their critiques.

How do you Know Where a Poem Begins? with Michael Torres

How does a poem begin for you? How can you tell when something—like an image, a memory, a line overheard, etc.—is “poem-worthy”? What are some examples of times when something stood out to you as “poem potential,” and how did you take that and put it to the page?

Can I Just Call It Fiction? with Kate St. Vincent Vogl

Join Kate St. Vincent Vogl for a discussion exploring what we gain and what we lose by designating our narrative as fiction instead of claiming it as true. When in our writing do we need to make that call? How does that affect the shape of our story? How does that change what we keep in and what we leave out? Kate will share how she navigated answering these questions in writing both her fiction and nonfiction, and she looks forward to discovering where the table conversation leads.
