Summer Exhibition: Embodying the North Shore Opening Reception

Fri, May 24 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Thanks to Gene and Bonnie Martz, we’ve been gifted a tremendous body of artwork from their collection; a group of work that solidly embodies and reflects the North Shore landscape created by a fantastic group of North Shore artists. Gene earned a three-year diploma in commercial art from the Minneapolis School of Art in 1950, and went on to earn both a BFA and M.Ed in art education at the University of Minnesota. He taught several classes at the Art Colony and, in 1978, he and Bonnie built a second home in the area.

If you know the North Shore, you will know the names listed below, artists who are so intricately laced with the Arrowhead as a geographic point where human experience and consciousness takes on material and spatial form. We invite you to celebrate this collection of artwork as we continue to explore our 2024 theme of Art + Embodiment. Following the exhibition, a revolving art program will be established where patrons will have the opportunity to rehome one or more of the pieces of artwork for two, six-month periods of time. More details forthcoming.

In gratitude to Gene and Bonnie Martz
