Painting outdoors is a challenge. Drawing, color, values, shapes, edges, texture, layers, style are all elements to consider. Often one needs to focus on one of these elements at a time to maintain clarity of vision. This vision is inspired by, but not limited to, the facts of nature in front of you. Join Dave for two days of exploration and experimentation in painting the great outdoors your way. Sharpen your skills and eyes, try new things, observe demos and paint up a storm with your fellow painters!
This class is hosted in partnership with Outdoor Painters of Minnesota and Plein Air Grand Marais. See their website for the full event listing: https://www.outdoorpaintersofminnesota.org/plein-air-grand-marais.html
Dave Gilsvik has been a student of painting for a very long time. He was given a working scholarship by Birney Quick to attend the Grand Marais Art Colony in the summer of 1977. Falling in love with the North Shore and his wife Patti (a Grand Marais native) he never left. As a young man he painted billboards, children’s rooms, murals and signs of all kinds. For the last twenty-plus years Dave has focused on oil paintings of the North Shore and surrounding woodlands. Dave’s work can be seen at Sivertson Gallery and at his log cabin studio north of Two Harbors during the Lake Superior 20/20 Studio Tour in September.
