Opportunities

Get involved in our arts community! Since 1947, the Art Colony has offered space, time, and supportive guidance for artists, ranging from the novice to professional. Artists can develop work and find support in a variety of ways, including through artist-in-residencies, classes, and access to the Art Colony’s professional studios (ceramics, print, writing & multi-discipline/painting).

Employment

We are currently hiring for a seasonal, part-time Visitor Engagement Manager with a hoped-for start date of May 13, 2024, and running through October 25, 2024.

VISITOR ENGAGEMENT MANAGER JOB POSTING

Volunteer

Volunteers are integral to our mission and what we are able to offer. Volunteers serve a key role in the life of the Grand Marais Art Colony. In a given week, volunteers care for our grounds, sort recycling, welcome visitors, provide needed administrative assistance, and support classroom set-up. Art Colony volunteers help make beloved events such as the Grand Marais Arts Festival and the North Shore Readers and Writers Festival possible through packet stuffing, set-up and tear-down, and offering hospitality to participants and visitors alike. Volunteers are also eligible for work-study where volunteer hours can result in tuition benefits. If you are interested in volunteering with us, give us a call or an email.

Work Study

The Art Colony Work Study Program allows students with interests in supporting the arts, arts administration, events, and teaching, to consider taking on a more pivotal role within the Art Colony’s daily operations while earning class tuition credit. While work-study positions are open to anyone, we particularly encourage those potential and current students who have financial need to consider this option. If you are interested in work study, please call or email us to get started.

Internships

Internships provide enthusiastic, engaged, and serious-minded artists with studio time and an opportunity to meet artistic goals. Interns, in return, support the Art Colony by providing educational opportunities to youth and adult learners, studio support, and oversight to a variety of delegated projects.

At this time, the Art Colony does not offer paid internships. However, if your educational institution supports paid summer internships, please contact us in January.
