Residencies
The Art Colony provides artists with independent work space in professional studios amidst the backdrop of a stunning landscape. An environment of creative freedom supports the process and development of new works, allowing for a combination of aesthetic inquiry, creative risk-taking, experimentation, and artistic development.
Juried Artists-in-Residence
We are pleased to announce our 2023 juried artists-in-residence:
Kimberly Wetzel | Pill Box Studio
Kimberly Wetzel is a Minneapolis College of Art and Design graduate and fine artist creating abstract works on canvas and paper. The main theme throughout Kim’s work is the solace nature provides to an overstimulated mind. Growing up in North Dakota, landscape had the capability to be still and expansive while routinely wielding harsh winters and dry summers. The prairies moved slowly while the weather created chaos. This land moves in a state of duality. Kimberly pulls from its contrasting elements of tranquility and disruption to inform the work she makes.
Kimberly has exhibited in many group shows throughout Minnesota, including From + Content Gallery, Silverwood Park, Fresh Eye Gallery and Altered Esthetics. At the start of 2021, she received a Creative Business Grant from Ramsey County. In July of 2021, she had her first series, “The Wind Holds Us Together” on display alongside three other artists at The Northfield Arts Guild. In 2022, she was selected to be an Artist-in-Residence through The Tides Institute in Eastport, Maine which was completed in June of that year.
Elizabeth Rose | Print Studio
Elizabeth Claire Rose is an American artist who works with printmaking and photography processes. Born in Central Illinois, Rose grew up exploring natural areas of the midwestern United States, which helped cultivate her creativity and interests in ecology, biogeography, and the ecological importance of varied landscapes. Rose is currently based in St. Louis, MO, where she is a new member of Central Print Studios.
Rose received her MFA in Printmaking from Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University and a BA in Fine Art with a minor in Wilderness Studies from the University of Montana. Rose was one of 25 photographers selected for publication in 25 Under 25 Up and Coming American Photographers Vol. 2 selected by Sylvia Plachy and the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. Her work has been supported by the Southern Graphics Council International, the Mid America Print Council, and the House of Prints in the UK (2020). In early 2023, Rose was the Goodall Visiting Fellow at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. Later this year, she will be a resident at Women’s Studio Workshop, Rosendale, NY, and at the Grand Marais Art Colony, where she was selected as the printmaking residency fellowship winner. Rose is an alumna of the Fulbright Program in Poland (2019-2020) where she was awarded a research grant in printmaking.
